Today's Saints: St. Hedwig was a Bavarian noble who, with her husband, Henry of Silesia, dedicated her wealth and energy to charitable works and funded religious communities. Although Hedwig was married at a very young age, she must have had a strong personality, for her devout influence shaped her marriage and her husband’s governance until Henry’s death, after which Hedwig finished out her years in the convent she had endowed in Treibniz. St. Margaret Mary Alacoque received visions of Christ that led her to promote devotion to the Sacred Heart. Although she was met with initial skepticism within her community, she persisted in sharing her visions until her confessor, St. Claude de Colombiere, declared them to be genuine and helped spread her message of union with Christ through devotion to his Sacred Heart.
