Today's Saint: St. Gregory the Great was responsible for promoting monasticism, patronizing the development of Gregorian chant, commissioning evangelists to Britain, and writing many theological and catechetical works. Pope Gregory led Rome and the Church through plagues, invasions, and political confusion, placing his talents for organization and leadership in the service of both political peace and the spread of Christianity.
